Op Art or Optical Art aims to achieve an optical illusion of movement or instability. When a viewer looks at a painting it starts waving in front of his or her eyes. Optical artists very often achieve these effects using just black and white colours.
Bridget Riley is one of the world’s leading Op Artists. The exhibition of her work is structured thematically rather than chronologically, which is less usual nowadays. However, in this case it makes sense showing the viewer different approaches to one particular subject or theme.

When you look at the paintings in the books or magazines you actually don’t experience the optical effects of these paintings. It is quite difficult to stare at some of the paintings for more than a few seconds.

I was little bit surprised by how large some of her artworks actually are. However, more importantly the optical illusions that these paintings create are very impressive.
